Why Is Bitcoin

Random thoughts from around the world

Bitcoin has many meanings for different people around the world. For some who saw their parents’ savings disappear during the 2008 Financial Crisis, Bitcoin is safety. For others who live in hyperinflation countries, Bitcoin is a savings technology. For those trying to escape war or authoritarian regimes, Bitcoin is a way out. For billions of people who are not ‘bank worthy,’ Bitcoin is a way in, while for others, bitcoin is just an asymmetric investment opportunity.

The list goes on and on, because Bitcoin is not only a network and bitcoin is not only an asset. Bitcoin is technology that empowers an economic movement, a financial revolution, a money evolution, and a new state of mind for those of us who seek to preserve value across time and are willing to rethink the whole meaning of ‘money.’

Bitcoin is, in a way, for our generation what fire was for the ancestors of our ancestors. For some, it meant warmth; for others, it was a way to preserve food for longer periods or even a weapon of war. Bitcoin doesn’t change absolutely ‘everything,’ but it almost does, and that is why it has so many different meanings. The current concept and structure of value and money is deeply embedded in every aspect of our lives, and when you modify that, a previously inconceivable future is now in sight. ‘If you don’t believe it or don’t get it, I don’t have the time to try to convince you, sorry.’

The purpose of this site is to list the various meanings of Bitcoin for different people around the globe.
