Humor

Humor is a currency all its own, something we use every day to navigate the digital age. If you want to make it in our modern world, you’ll need humor. It’s essential. And there’s nothing that brings this home more than the story of Bitcoin.

Think back to Bitcoin’s early days. Picture a logo that looks like it was slapped together in Microsoft Paint, a crudely drawn magician that became a symbol of this groundbreaking digital currency. It seemed like a joke at the time, but that little image became the start of something huge.

From the guy who held up a “Buy Bitcoin” sign during a Janet Yellen interview to memes that took the internet by storm, Bitcoin’s history is filled with laughter and irreverence. Ten years ago, you might have laughed it off. Today, it still makes you laugh, but more in a nervous kind of way since it makes you think about the fragility and ridiculousness of our current money and financial systems.

But the humor in Bitcoin’s story goes deeper than memes and jokes. It’s a clever critique, a satirical look at the financial systems that govern our lives. By providing an alternative to traditional money, Bitcoin has made the flaws of fiat currency into a punchline.

While politicians and finance gurus have dismissed Bitcoin as “not real money” or something insignificant, their panic and attempts to regulate it only add to the humor. They’re afraid of something they don’t understand, something that doesn’t play by their rules. Bitcoin, with no CEO or headquarters to target, is a wild card they can’t control, and there’s something inherently funny about that.

Imagine the faces at the Federal Reserve when they first realized what Bitcoin represented. It’s a mental image that can’t help but bring a smile to your face.

Historic moments like the ‘HODL’ post, John McAfee’s audacious price prediction (bet), the hundreds of Bitcoin obituaries calling it ‘dead’ or ‘now really dead’ or ‘really now, this time for sure it is dead’, and the unforgettable post by Greg Schoen that read, ‘I wish I had kept my 1,700 BTC @ $0.06 instead of selling them at $0.30, now that they’re $8.00!’ all contribute to making Bitcoin a great piece of humor.

Ultimately, it seems as if Bitcoin will always prove this saying “He who laughs last, laughs best” right.
